Every memory from the past is important and deserves to be preserved with love and passion: our grandparents, our ancestors, are precious memories that we carry and cherish in our hearts, and it's important to carry on the traditions and cultural legacies they left us. Such as the Batteries of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP, which in the Modena area are still passed down from generation to generation.

Luigi and Luigia were married, it was the year 1900.
They lived in Castelvetro di Modena, this delightful village nestled among rolling hills marked by rows and vine shoots: here even today the Lambrusco Grasparossa and Trebbiano vines are cultivated, the grapes used for the production of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP.
In this prosperous land Luigi and Luigia began their great passion, with the desire to preserve something precious to then be able to pass on to the later generationsIn 1915 they started their first set of barrels for the production of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP and today this precious legacy has passed into the hands of their granddaughter, Giorgia, who has asked us to help her guard this important treasure in our Vault so that one day he can reserve it and give it to his children.

Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP contains drops of memory; it's important to cherish the memories passed down to us by our ancestors, a care that thrives on empathy and kindness.

Modena's tradition: the heritage of the Batteries
In the Modena tradition, each set of barrels of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP represents an invaluable heritage. The tradition is still alive and well according to which, for every female child born, a new set is installed, which 25 years later will become the the dowry for the bride getting married.
Even in the Malpighi family, as in many other Modena families, this tradition is preserved just as Luigi and Luigia did with their children and grandchildren.
Pietro, Augusto, grandmother Maria, Ermes, Massimo, and finally Lorenzo and Leonardo: six generations of the same family, each of whom has a dedicated set of barrels kept in the Dedicated vaultEach Battery contains a Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP with a different aging, depending on the year in which the Battery was started.

The human factor: how much love, passion, and knowledge matter
The human factor is what, more than anything, has made the history of this great excellence, Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP, possible over the centuries: passion and love for one's roots, combined with expertise, have allowed and still allow such an ancient tradition to be carried forward. Ermes Malpighi is one of the custodians of this tradition. He is a master taster for AED – the Association of Expert Tasters of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP – and is one of the founders of the Consortium who protects this great excellence. But above all, he knows every single detail of how it is produced: all thanks to his origins, he is the fourth generation of a historic family and a ancient vinegar factory.
